This beloved French dessert has a long history which dates back to the 18th century in the town of Commercy, in Loraine. The first recipe for Cakes à la Madeleine appeared in the 1750s. King Louis XV introduced these mini cakes to the French court; the rest is history. Madeleine is deeply ingrained in the French culture, in the same way, as the baguette and wine.
